If a tear in the space-time continuum were to suddenly rip open, two things would fall out: the Terminator and then the Surface Book quickly tumbling to the Earth behind it. From the snake-like hinge, the flat design and even down to the washed-out silver color of this laptop, everything about it just seems like it came from the future.

Milled from two solid blocks of magnesium, the Surface Book feels sturdy and has a most minimalistic style unto its own.

From keyboard deck to the palm rests, the entire interior of this laptop is one flat surface of metal, save for the large space reserved for the glass touchpad. Similarly, the screen lid is made of one uninterrupted slate of magnesium, with its only extra flourishes being a mirror-finished Windows logo in the center and a rear-facing camera.

Along the chiseled sides, you’ll find two flat edges that start from the top of the display and terminate at the tip of the palm rest. That’s not the only seamless transition.

Ford tells Trump his role as US president in a film

Harrison Ford has told US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump that his role as the US president in Air Force One was just “a movie”.

Speaking to The New York Times recently, Trump praised Ford’s role as a heroic president in the film.

He told the newspaper: “My favourite was Harrison Ford on the plane. I love Harrison Ford. He stood up for America”.

Comcast announced this week that it has successfully tested the world’s first DOCSIS 3.1 modem in Philadelphia.

That probably sounds like a mumbo-jumbo to you, so let’s put it in simple terms. This means Comcast has figured out how to use its existing cable lines to deliver super-fast gigabit internet speeds without having to do major work on its current infrastructure.

Gigabit internet is broadband that delivers download speeds of 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps) or better. That’s at least 10 times faster than what you get today from your cable modem.

Usually, gigabit internet requires internet providers to install new fiber lines in the cities they serve. It’s an expensive, lengthy process, and cable companies aren’t always incentivized to invest that much in the technology.

But Comcast’s technology appears to be more promising since a lot of the upgrades can be done with software enhancements to its existing infrastructure. It also means Comcast will be able to offer gigabit internet to its customers a lot sooner than other cable companies can.

Comcast says it’ll start testing the new technology in more homes in 2016 and expand from there.

The breakthrough means a lot more for you other than faster internet speeds. And it’s not all good.

It’ll give Comcast the option to charge you more for a higher tier of premium internet service. And faster data speeds means customers are more likely to use more data each month, which plays into the company’s long-term strategy of charging you based on how much you use.

London bus stops embrace e-paper

Transport for London is trialling e-paper bus stops that can display real-time travel information.

Fitted with solar-powered panels, they show how long passengers have to wait for the next buses, as well as route maps and timetables.

Four bus stops have been fitted with the tech so far. Chris Foxx quizzed TfL’s head of technology Simon Reed about the innovation.

Set in a quarry 4 hours south of Montreal, Canada, the video further develops the visual language initially explored in the video for previous single Driven. Choreographer Wynn Holmes rejoins the team to aid in highlighting the songs musical structure through movement.

Microsoft Surface Book: The ultimate laptop

Microsoft is moving swiftly to address complaints aimed at both the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4. In response to user complaints on its support forums, the company has said it is working to resolve problems ranging from random crashes to boot problems and battery being drained when in hibernation mode.

In its short tenure as a hardware maker, Microsoft has become the defacto trailblazer for Windows-running devices. It all started with the lofty promise that its Surface tablet could replace your laptop. We were skeptical about it three years ago, but after the Surface Pro 3, Microsoft nearly perfected the formula and showed veteran computer manufacturers how hybrids should be made.

Now, Microsoft introduces the Surface Book as the “ultimate laptop.” Like the Surface tablets before it, this laptop takes a unique spin on the notebook format that’s been around for over 40 years. Between the 3:2 aspect ratio, 13.5-inch screen and its practically-trademarked “dynamic fulcrum” hinge, there isn’t any machine on the planet like the Surface Book – and then, with the touch of a button and a gentle tug, it becomes a tablet.

It all sounds like an amazing idea on paper, and with the added “holy shit, Microsoft made a laptop” factor, the Surface Book sounds like a thoroughly amazing device. Let’s see just how well Redmond made good on the hype.

Microsoft Working on Adding Xbox 360 Games to Xbox One Marketplace

Backwards compatibility was introduced as part of the Xbox One’s latest operating system update. In addition to playing games digitally–either previously owned or newly purchased–Xbox 360 discs can also be inserted into the console and played, provided it is in the list of supported games.

Currently there are just over 100 Xbox 360 games supported by the Xbox One backwards compatibility feature. The list includes a mixture of titles from Microsoft’s own library, along with some from third-party publishers including Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Sega, Bethesda, and Disney.
